An inmate convicted of assaulting a corrections officer at the state prison in Golden Valley has been sentenced to another 18 months of incarceration. 33-year-old Michael Anderson was sentenced September 12 by Mohave County Superior Court judge Steve Conn.
Conn presided over Anderson’s bench trial that concluded August 16. The judge acquitted Anderson of a rioting charge but found him guilty of assaulting corrections officer Brandon Puebla during a period of unrest that resulted in more than $2-million in criminal damage to the prison in July, 2015.
While Anderson is the only inmate charged in the rioting to go to trial, thirteen others resolved their cases through plea agreements. Each was given 10-36 months of additional prison time.
Three other charged inmates still await trial.
