Sheriff’s spokeswoman Trish Carter said Trenton Drake White, 20, was taken into custody after unknownily presenting himself to investigators at the law enforcement agency sponsored free trash collection event on June 6 in Kingman.
Carter said White was arrested following a nearly two week investigation into a report of illegal dumping of garbage in an area north of Castle Rock Road and Thompson Avenue. White also had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants issued out of the Kingman Justice Court for failure to pay fines and driving on a suspended license.
On June 1, Carter said detectives with Environmental Rural Area Cleanup Enforcement received an illegal dumpsite case located along a dirt road in the rural desert area north of Castle Rock Road and Thompson Avenue, which included at least 14 large plastic trash bags spilling miscellaneous construction debris and household trash, with a total weight of approximately 600 pounds.
The evidence at the dumpsite and the course of their investigation led them to a possible suspect that lived in the Birdland area of Kingman, said Carter.
The detectives were unable to make contact with the suspect at that time.
On June 6, the detectives were working at a free trash collection site sponsored by their law enforcement agency at Neal Butler Park when they noticed a vehicle in line for the event that was previously observed parked at the suspect’s residence, said Carter. Upon closer inspection the detectives were able to determine that White was behind the wheel of the parked vehicle.
Detectives contacted White and he reportedly admitted to detectives that he dumped the items in the desert a week prior.
The warrants were confirmed and White was taken into custody by the detectives without incident. White was then turned over to an MCSO deputy for transport and booking of the warrants. White was also charged with criminal littering, a class 6 felony.
The copy of the report was forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office with a class 6 felony charge of illegal dumping.
Carter added, in addition to working police investigations and presenting prevention programs, Mohave County ERACE sponsors free community cleanup trash collection events in several locations around the county to help reduce illegal dumping. Residents are asked to call ERACE directly at 928-715-0480 if you have information on an illegal dumpsite or call Mohave Silent Witness at 1-888-227-8780 if you observe an illegal dumping in progress.
