A suspect in a December 30 shooting in Kingman has surrendered to authorities along the Arizona border with Mexico. Deputy Kingman police chief Rusty Cooper said that Jose Reyes, 19, fled to Mexico after shooting a 15-year-old boy inside a home in the 3500 block of Wells Street.
The victim required hospital treatment for a serious gunshot wound to the soldier. Cooper said investigators determined the violence was triggered by a drug dispute.
Family members reportedly convinced Reyes to return to the United States. Reyes turned himself in after crossing the border into San Luis on January 19.
Cooper said Reyes admitted involvement in the shooting when questioned by Kingman police detectives who traveled south to speak to him. Reyes was being held in the Yuma County jail pending extradition to Mohave County where he has been charged with aggravated assault.
