A knife-weilding suspect lunges toward police and is shot dead. Sergeant Jon Howard with Phoenix Police says the suspect’s mother called for help after her son started arguging with her while holding a sword. The son took off before police arrived but did find the man had a felony arrest warrant. When her son returned,
the mother called police again to say he was fighting with neighbors and threatening them with a knife. The suspect kept police at bay for about an hour while they tried to convince him to surrender. When the suspect left the apartment, he had a large hunting knife tied to his hand and charged officers. Police tried to use nonlethal means to stop the suspect, but he kept coming leaving a handful of officers to open fire on the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
