Phoenix police shoot an armed robbery suspect who threatened an officer with a butcher knife. Sergeant Vince Lewis says a patrol officer stopped a man in the North-West Valley who matched the description of suspect who had just committed an armed robbery.  The suspect was combative with police all the while

hiding his hand in his pocket.  The suspect advanced on the officer and pulled an eight-inch knife on the cop who then shot the suspect.  The suspect was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  The suspect, who is a 22-year-old man from Morocco, was suffering from depression according to family members.  Police are investigating whether the suspect wanted to “die by cop.”  The investigation on whether the suspect was involved in the armed robbery continues.  The officer is on administrative leave as protocol.
