The traveling Kingman Senior Softball (KSS) team has won back to back tournament championships. After claiming Spring Worlds in St. George, Utah at the start of the month, KSS also won the AA 50’s Southwest Championships last weekend in Las Vegas.
KSS used timely hitting to overcome some sloppy defense to roll through the Las Vegas tournament undefeated. KSS was also unbeaten in St. George.
KSS opened play in Las Vegas last Friday with a 20-10 win over Rip Tide. A win by forfeit followed as Just Chillin did not have enough players to take the field.
On Saturday KSS posted a 16-15 win over Lights Out before beating Horn 16-13. KSS finished the day with another defeat of Lights Out, 19-18.
KSS breezed through Sunday’s championship game with a 25-13 win over Horn.
KSS Captain and second baseman Bob Posey was named tournament MVP in both St. George and Las Vegas. Teammates Armando Caban, Glenn Jordan, Jeff Pollard and Mark Esquibel joined Posey on the all-tournament team last weekend.
KSS Qualified for the Western Nationals in Sacramento in August with its Las Vegas championship. The St. George title qualified KSS for the Tournament of Champions in Florida early next year.
KSS is 38-16 since last August and is 16-7 this year. KSS next travels to Prescott for tournament play May 14 and 15.
Former KSS team member Mike Ross also returned to Kingman as a champion. Ross plays for Santisi Brothers, a Phoenix-based team that won the AAA 55 division in Las Vegas.
