A toddler that nearly drowned at Lake Havasu Saturday was last listed in extremely critical condition at Phoenix Children’s hospital. The 18-month-old girl was among 12 Californians aboard a deck boat whose operator tried to reach shoreline in choppy water.
Mohave County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said strong wind pushed waves that bashed the bow and capsized the boat on the north shore of Pittsburgh Point. Everyone but the baby was thrown clear of the vessel.
Carter said the baby ended up underneath the overturned boat along the shoreline. Emergency personnel lifted the boat up onto its side so the girl could be rescued.
CPR was administered immediately and she was transported to the local hospital before flight to Phoenix. No other injuries were reported.
The accident remains under investigation.
