On June 9, 2015, around 8:13 p.m., Lake Havasu City Police officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Mesquite Avenue in reference to a possible suspect from several commercial burglaries that occurred between June 4 and June 5, 2015, in the 1600 block of McCulloch Boulevard and the 2000 block of Swanson Avenue. Officers contacted a male subject, later identified as 37-year old Camarillo, California resident, Kevin Collins, in the area near a vehicle that was believed to be used during the burglaries. While speaking with Collins, officers noticed burglary tools and a pair of gloves inside the vehicle. Collins was detained and brought to the police department for questioning.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Detectives served search warrants on Collins’ hotel room and vehicle. During the search warrants, detectives recovered a large amount of U.S. currency, burglary tools, clothing, gloves, tools believed to be used during the burglaries, a Glock 9mm handgun, methamphetamine, marijuana, and several items of drug paraphernalia.
Collins was booked into the Lake Havasu City jail and charged with nine counts of burglary, theft, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm during a drug offense. Collins is being held on a $90,000 cash-only bond after his initial appearance and has been remanded to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
