14 teams braved sizzling temperatures to compete in the 2017 City of Kingman Fence Busters Re-Dux Men’s Softball Tournament! Local teams were crowned champions of the two division tournament that concluded Sunday at Centennial Park.
When the dust had settled, Coach Leno Barela and Team S.I.K beat Lietz Fraze for the upper division title. Coach J.J. Harris led the Quiet Storm to the lower division championship over Smack-A-Pitch.
The City of Kingman Parks Maintenance staff did an outstanding job in prepping the fields and even dealing with an untimely water main break which forced the re-arranging of the early games of the event. Teams, players and spectators had many positive comments about the format of the event and most reported that they planned to attend again next year.
This tournament was a big step in the direction of re-vitalizing the sports tournament culture in the City of Kingman. The City hopes to keep this weekend for the Fence Busters Tournament every year, and they intend to reach out to the softball communities in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Los Angeles to help grow the numbers for 2018.
The city expressed thanks to owner Gabe Otero for providing the Cosmic Bounce for children at the tournament. Event sponsor Martin Swanty Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Jeep and KIA liaison Chuck Mote was on hand with prize give-aways and beautiful display vehicles.
