Bullhead City is anticipating a record number of attendees for the 10th Annual Pirates of the Colorado River Regatta event that is scheduled August 11-14,

“We are beyond excited to be celebrating our 10th Annual River Regatta, and are working with our sponsors to make this event bigger and better than ever before,” said Ed Catalfamo, River Regatta Chair.

As part of the 10th annual celebration the River Regatta Marketing Committee appointed former Bullhead City Mayor Jack Hakim as the Honorary Commodore and he will be the events lead judge and social liaison.

New this year is the Most Spirited Business contest, offering local businesses the opportunity to show their “Regatta Spirit” and possibly win some cash. “This competition encourages local businesses to get into the Regatta spirit and help welcome visitors to town,” said Catalfamo.

Third place winner will receive $125 in cash, a plaque, and a one quarter page ad in the 2017 River Regatta Event program.  Second place winner will receive $250 cash, a plaque and a one half page ad in the 2017 River Regatta Event program.

The first place winner will receive $500 in cash, one year possession of the traveling trophy, a full page ad in the 2017 River Regatta Event program, a full page ad in Our Town Magazine and 240 liners on Murphy Broadcasting stations. The City thanks its sponsors for bringing this new Regatta contest to the community.

The River Regatta would not be the same without the annual Decorated Float contest – a floater and spectator favorite.  Participants from all over the United States via for over $3,500 in cash and prizes every year.

Contest categories include best decorated, best theme, most spirited and the grand prize of $1000.

River homes located between Davis Camp and Rotary Park can compete for cash and prizes in the Most Spirted House Contest.  Anyone wishing to have their home judged are asked to display balloons and a banner with a physical address on railings and dock.

Judging will take place between 7-10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13. Judging Criteria is broken down as follows: creativity 35%, decorations 15%, and spirit 50%. Contest prizes are first place $750 and a trophy, second place $250 and a trophy and third place receives a trophy.

The River Regatta has partnered with Golden Nugget Laughlin to host the first annual Best Regatta Cocktail Contest. The contest will be held inside Gold Diggers night club at the Golden Nugget Laughlin during the River Regatta Welcome party on Thursday, August 11.

Mixologists will be competing for the coveted Best Regatta Cocktail traveling trophy and cash. Spectators will have the opportunity to sample the entries and vote for their favorite to win “People Choice.”

The 2016 River Regatta contests are sponsored by Bullhead City Wienerschnitzel, EPCOR Water, Murphy Broadcasting, Our Town Magazine, Red Bull, Pittman Outdoors, Golden Nugget Laughlin and Harrah’s Laughlin.

Winners will be announced at the Official Bullhead City River Regatta Awards Ceremony inside Harrah’s Laughlin banquet room on August 14 at 10 am. Winners must be present and have a valid photo ID to claim prizes.

Prizes that are not claimed at the awards ceremony will not be awarded.
