The fire that sent a plume of dark smoke into the sky from the Kingman Airport Industrial Park Thursday afternoon occurred during a fuel transfer operation at the Love’s fuel depot.
Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District Chief Pat Moore said fuel was being transferred from a bulk holding tank to a an eighteen wheeler.
“It was an over the road tractor trailer that they were fuelling when the fire started,” Moore said. He said it is not known what sparked the fire but that relevant agencies were notified and the cause is under investigation.
Moore said it is fortunate that no injuries occurred and that crews were able to contain the fire to its area of origin. There is no preliminary calculation as to the value of the loss of fuel, vehicles and equipment, but the fueling depot was shut down indefinetly.
“They are closed,” Moore said. “They’re going to be impacted for an extended period of time.”
