Detectives from the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau conducted a child molestation investigation after the police department was notified of an incident involving a grandfather and grandchild. On December 2, 2015, detectives arrested 46-year old Scott Smith for child molestation after the investigation revealed that Smith inappropriately touched his 5-year-old granddaughter.
The police were notified on December 2, 2015, after the 5-year-old female victim disclosed to the Arizona Department of Child Safety that she was inappropriately touched by Smith over Thanksgiving weekend. Detectives took over the investigation and conducted a forensic interview with the victim who disclosed that she was inappropriately touched. During the investigation, it was found that Smith is currently a sex offender, but failed to register his new address with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office in the appropriate time frame.
Smith was charged with child molestation and failure to register as a sex offender. During his initial appearance, Smith was held on a $100,000 bond and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
