A man walking his dog along a canal bank in Scottsdale nearly drowns after his dog jumps in the canal to fetch a ball.  According to Fire Captain Danny Ables, the man jumped into the canal to save his dog, but couldn’t get out.  Nearby golfers went over to the canal and assisted the dog out, but the slick sides of

the canal made it difficult to rescue the man.  Crews arrived and used a ground ladder to help the man out of the canal.  The dog and his owner are now safe with no injuries.  Ables has a warning for anyone thinking of jumping into a canal to save a dog or go swimming.  Water flows can be dangerous in the canal and most are not designed with life-saving devices.  It’s recommended you avoid jumping into a canal to rescue pets or objects.  It’s best to just call 9-1-1 for help.
