A Kingman man responsible for a 2014 traffic fatality faces a mandatory prison sentence after pleading guilty to reckless manslaughter. Prosecutor Bob Moon said Tyler Smith, 22, shoplifted a t-shirt from Walmart before officers stopped his vehicle at Gordon and Stockton Hill road.
Moon said Smith sped away as officers approached on foot. He said Smith was traveling at about 50 miles per hour when he blew through a stop sign at the intersection of Northern Avenue and Glen Road.
Jerry Reece, 75, Kingman was critically injured when the pickup truck he was driving was T-boned by Smith’s car. Reece died of his injuries about three weeks after the crash.
Smith faces a 7-15 year prison term when sentenced by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Steve Conn.
