The latest numbers from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office
show officer-involved use-of-force incidents are on the rise.  Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery notes
that, as reporting for these incidents straddles the new year, 23 of the 43
cases reported in 2015, up from 40 in 2014, have yet to be submitted to his
office for review.

Montgomery adds that
not all of these incidents was an officer involved shooting and no officers in
any of those that were shootings have been charged. Montgomery notes and getting
better information to responding police about a suspect’s mental health or drug
abuse could help reduce the number of these incidents going forward.
