Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is touting the arrest
of eight people and the seizure of more than 500 pot plants at several
locations, one not far from the state capitol, as one of the largest marijuana
production and distribution network busts in the county’s history.

Arpaio says several suspects are still sought
and they haven’t yet been able to tally up all of the plants and pounds of
cultivated marijuana seized. Arpaio notes the irony of this operation, in that
with three of four of the ringleaders being Vietnamese, Arizona now has this
illegal drug not only being imported from Mexico but also being produced here
on a large scale by foreigners.
