The Mohave Community College Governing Board will hold its regular meeting on Friday, Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. at the Bullhead City Campus, 3400 Highway 95. The meeting will be broadcast on ITV at all four MCC campuses.
On the agenda includes a vote for approval on offering two new degree programs as competency-based education (CBE) programs: Automotive Collision Repair Technology, and Chemical Dependency Studies. MCC has applied to the Higher Learning Commission to offer these programs in the CBE format.
CBE is a model of education that uses learning, not time, as the metric of student success. The model allows students to progress through a program at their own pace and possibly reduce the time needed to obtain a degree. The program is catered to students with work or family commitments, or who need extra educational flexibility.
The board will also honor MCC students Abigail Hunt from the Lake Havasu City campus and Dale Cummings from the Bullhead City Campus. Both students were selected to the All-Arizona Academic Team for the 2016 school year, and will receive a full-tuition scholarship to one of the Arizona public universities. Hunt will be attending the University of Arizona and double majoring in Mathematics and Geosciences, and Cummings will be attending Northern Arizona University and major in Biochemistry.
During the president’s report, the board will hear about a review of the college’s crisis management plan and its emergency preparedness. The president’s report will also address Arizona HB 2072 and HB 2338, which are currently active in the Arizona legislature. Both bills amend Arizona statutes to prohibit any policy that restricts the legal carry of firearms on a college campus, concealed or otherwise. A resolution will be presented to oppose both HB 2072 and HB 2338.
The Board of Governors’ meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 in Room 508 on the Bullhead City Campus at 3400 Highway 95. It will be broadcast live by Interactive Television (ITV) to Room 508 on the Lake Havasu City Campus at 1977 Acoma Blvd., to Room 508 on the Neal Campus Kingman location and to Room 301 on the North Mohave Campus at 480 S. Central in Colorado City. The public is invited to attend in person or by ITV.
The public can view the full agenda, including appendices not exempt by ARS 38-431.0, in the library on each MCC campus with 24 hours prior to the scheduled meeting. They can obtain a copy through the Office of the President, 1971 Jagerson Ave. in Kingman, or go online to:
