kadenNEEDLES-A public memorial service will be held today at 6 p.m. in Santa Fe park in Needles for the young boy who died last week after being struck by a train.

Kaden Lanphear, 8, went missing from his home last Saturday, which prompted an immediate search and rescue.

Police say Lanphear reportedly jumped on an eastbound train near his home in the 500 block of California Avenue in Needles. The boy’s body was found several hours later in Yucca, Arizona after train employees reported the boy had been struck and killed.

Preliminary investigations show Lanphear reportedly disembarked the eastbound train at sometime Friday morning and was subsequently hit by a training coming in the opposite direction.

The public is invited to attend the special memorial for Lanphear and a memorial fund has been set up in his honor at Desert Communities Federal Credit Union in Needles and Fort Mohave.

A GoFundMe account has also been established to help the Lanphear family with funeral costs.
