Lake Havasu City republican Cori Merryman is running for Mohave County Sheriff. She is the first to announce candidacy for the August, 2016 primary election.
“I believe that you should start off quick start off hard and just keep rolling and put 100% of yourself into it the whole time,” Merryman said. “I’ve been a public servant since I became a resident of Lake Havasu at the age of 17.”
Merryman said her community service began when she served as an assistant swim coach at the Aquatic Center. She said she and her husband have been in business for 15 years, the last eight of which she said they have co-owned E3 Arms, a company that manufactures AR-15 rifles.
Merryman said she’s already secured a Chairman and a Treasurer for a campaign that enjoys the support of former state senator Ron Gould and a number of well known Lake Havasu City doctors. She said she’s confident the group will raise plenty of money to finance a viable campaign.
Merryman served as a sheriff’s deputy for eight years under former Sheriff Tom Sheahan before resigning last September. She said she knows the office, its personnel and operations, and that she wants to use her leadership skills to reduce turnover and boost morale.
Merryman said she’s ready to make history.
“In the state of Arizona, there has never been a female elected sheriff. There was one appointed and that was back in 1944,” Merryman said. “If I am elected sheriff for Mohave County, I would the first elected (female) sheriff and make history for the state of Arizona.”
