Mesa Police say officers had no time to use non lethal force against a woman lunging at them with a huge knife. So they had no choice but to fatally shoot 24 year old Danielle Jacobs Thursday at her home. Detective Esteban Flores says, it just so happens one of the officers who responded to the
suicide call involving Jacobs has crisis intervention training. Flores adds, after this incident, Police Chief John Meza has deepened his resolve to expand mental health response training to all of his officers.
Flores says the woman charged at the officers with an eight inch chef’s knife, like the one pictured here. The officers are on administrative leave and there is no body cam recording of the shooting. Jacob garnered some internet fame after a video of her was posted last year having a breakdown while cuddling her therapy dog.
