A Fort Mohave man has pled guilty in the death of a woman who was fatally wounded when struck by a vehicle that plowed into her motel room in Fort Bragg, California in October, 2014. Michael Bitney, 57, pled guilty to grossly negligent vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury.
Prosecutor Kevin Davenport said it was an act of “motel rage” and a fit of anger on Bitney’s part. Davenport said Bitney was incensed by noise coming from the room adjacent to his, including the cries of an infant.
The seven-month-old baby was being held in the arms of his aunt when Bitney deliberately drove his pickup into her motel room. Karen Zuehlsdorf, 45, Lafayette, California, was killed and the baby was injured.
Bitney faces a 7-22 year prison term when sentenced July 19.
