A robbery suspect is dead after a Motel 6 security guard shoots and kills him. Phoenix Police Lieutenant Paul Taylor says it happened around ten Sunday night at the location on 52nd Street and Van Buren. Taylor says the security guard was watching surveillance when he saw two masked African-American
men, armed with guns, enter the motel lobby. One of them jumped the counter.
Taylor says the man behind the counter turned and pointed his weapon at the guard, who, in turn, opened fire on the suspect, who died at the motel. The second man then ran from the scene.
Taylor says armed security guards must have what’s called a “guard card” in order to use to a firearm at work. But Taylor says, the guard was clearly in fear for his life when he shot the suspect.
