A stretch of the Loop 202 in Tempe near Elliott Road is once again open after a multiple car crash during Tuesday’s morning rush hour at about 5:40. D-P-S Spokesman Bart Graves says, while investigators are not exactly sure what triggered this four car pile- up, a car that became disabled in
the middle lane is suspected, with approaching vehicles more than likely unable to have stopped in time to avoid a collision.
Graves says one person had to be extricated from their vehicle, and that victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Everyone else involved suffered minor injuries.
Graves says the overnight rains could also have contributed to the chain-reaction crash.
