A man charged with the murder of his girlfriend in Fort Mohave is representing himself at trial in Mohave County Superior Court. 55-year-old Louis Plunkett told the jury Wednesday that he loved and would have never harmed 62-year-old Marilyn Burdick. Plunkett told the jury his medical expert will testify that Burdick’s injuries occurred from a fall rather than being struck. He also denied being in overwhelming debt, which was part of what the state argued motivated the alleged homicide. Prosecutor Doug Camacho told the jury that Plunkett perpetrated a scheme to have Burdick list him as the beneficiary of her considerable assets and life insurance policy before Burdick was strangled, beaten and dumped in her swimming pool in June, 2013. The trial is expected to continue into late next week.
