It’s not really clear where the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) stands in its search for a new fire chief. The question was unanswered following a near four hour-long May 18 meeting of the district governing board.
Wayne Eder has been serving as interim chief since March 23.
While Eder was one of five applicants for the full time chief’s position, he was not among the top three candidates selected for interview by a two member screening committee consisting of board members Mike Collins and Jim Bailey. An agenda item requesting that Eder be added to the interview pool resulted in 75-minute executive session.
The board emerged from that private session and moved on with its agenda business without further discussion or action on the Eder item. He was not interviewed during the meeting.
The board subsequently conducted another 90 minute executive session during which chief position applicants Glenn Brown and Robert Jarvis were interviewed. There had been plans to interview applicant Robert Hume by telephone but board members indicated Hume didn’t answer two phone calls made that evening.
“We didn’t talk to him, so we’ll figure out what we’re going to do about that later,” Lewis said.
The meeting that started at 6:00 ended just before 10:00 p.m. without indication when additional interviews or consideration of the chief’s position would occur.
