NEEDLES– Detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a near drowning that took place in a community aquatic facility Sunday afternoon in the Rio Buena Vista neighborhood. A 3-year old child was found in the housing community’s public spa and was unresponsive.
It’s unknown how long the child was underwater. When San Bernardino County Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene, several adults were performing CPR on the child. They were initially transported to the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, where he was prepped for air transport to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas.
The child’s current condition is unknown.
At the time of the near-drowning, sheriff’s deputies at the Needles Police Station had not been notified of the situation. It wasn’t until the following day that detectives were contacted by medical staff at the hospital in Las Vegas. They have since opened an investigation into the incident and are asking for the public’s assistance.
