While most interested in seeking local political office pulled papers to do so weeks or months ago, at least three people have mounted very late attempts to do the same. The deadline to submit nominating petitions to qualify candidacies is June 1 and the late-involved trio took out their petitions within two weeks of that date.
The result could be that incumbent Ron Nicholson, previously unopposed in his bid for re-election as Mohave County Assessor, ends up with two challengers. Attempting to run against Nicholson are a pair of republicans, Nancy Esquibel of Kingman and Jeanne Kentch of Lake Havasu City.
Another challenger for District 3 Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson has also surfaced. Seeking candidacy in that race is Lake Havasu City republican George Schnittgrund.
