Phoenix’s incoming Police Chief says she’s honored and excited to assume her new job in October. Jeri Williams was introduced to the public Thursday at a City Hall news conference. Williams, currently chief of the Oxnard Police Department, says she’s continuing the culture of de-escalation
and transparency under Chief Joe Yahner. But she emphasizes that listening is a two way street between police and the community it serves.
Williams began her career with Phoenix Police in 1989 as a foot patrol officer. She moved up the ranks to become Commander at two precincts before moving to Oxnard in 2011. Williams becomes Phoenix first female police chief.
