Phoenix Police officers still heartsick over a colleague’s death find themselves squaring off against another gunman Thursday afternoon. Only this time, officers and suspect alike are unhurt. Officer Vince Lewis says an armed suspect pointed a gun at police and an officer fired on him.
Lewis says police followed the suspect in his Jeep G-M-C until he stopped at 51st Avenue and Camelback Road. That’s where he brandished a weapon, and fortunately, no one was injured after the officer fired at the suspect. Lewis says there are claims this same man pointed a weapon at a nearby school and Home Depot when police were alerted. However, Lewis says, he may have had nothing more than a replica of a handgun. Police say the suspect exhibited signs of impairment, and he’s been sent in for evaluation.
Thursday’s confrontation occurs just one day after a police gunbattle with an armed suspect left 35 year old Officer Dave Glasser dead.
