Over this last weekend the Kingman Police Department received numerous complaints regarding a post on Facebook that showed a dog with its muzzle Duct taped shut, with a caption explaining that the dog’s owner created the “homemade muzzle” after the dog chewed up furniture. The investigation revealed that the dog and owner both resided at a residence in the 700blk of S. 6th St.
No Charge for Duct Taped Dog
The Kingman Police Department, in partnership with Mohave County Animal Control, contacted the dog’s owner, a 22 year old Kingman woman. During the investigation it was discovered that the woman had a valid warrant for her arrest for misdemeanor Failure to Pay Fines issued by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. The woman was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility on her warrant.
The investigation revealed that the dog was in good condition and that the dog was never harmed or never in any danger as a result of the homemade muzzle. After criminal review it was determined that there was no intent to torcher or injure the animal, therefore elements of “animal cruelty” were not met. The owner was counseled on proper use of a genuine muzzle.
