A young Kingman man allegedly led a police pursuit before he assaulted a police officer following his arrest. Deputy Kingman police chief Rusty Cooper said 21-year-old Daniel Heaton sped away following an attempted routine traffic stop in the downtown area the afternoon of February 1.

Cooper said police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns associated with Heaton’s dangerous driving. He said officers located Heaton and his vehicle a few minutes later in where he was taken into custody without incident in the vicinity of the 600 block of Court Street.

“While being processed at the Kingman police department Heaton kneed the arresting officer in the lower abdomen,” Cooper said. “Heaton, who said he fled from police ‘for fun’, was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.”

Heaton was charged with assaulting a police officer, endangerment and unlawful flight. Cooper said the officer was not seriously injured.
