Opening arguments begin in the Jerice Hunter murder case,
the Glendale mother accused of killing her 5-year old daughter, Jhesseye Shockley,
in 2011 and then reporting her missing to police.

Hunter sat in court with her lawyers as Prosecutor
Jeanette Gallagher told the jury of nine women and seven men that she abused Jhesseye
for weeks until she died, put her corpse in a suitcase and then took it to a
trash dumpster in Tempe.  Defense attorney
Candace Shoemaker argues that Jhesseye’s body has never been found and that a
witness will testify to seeing her being kidnapped.  Hunter faces first-degree murder and child
abuse charges in a trial expected to last into May.
