A former cop is taking on Sheriff Joe Arpaio in this year’s election.   Retired Phoenix Officer Paul Penzone is once again giving it a shot to unseat Sheriff Joe in a “rematch.”  Penzone held a news conference announcing his candidacy saying “he is committed to taking the Sheriff’s office into the future and be proud

of that office.”  Penzone says he is ready for the personal attacks like the ones he suffered four years ago when he ran against Arpaio.  Arpaio released a statement through his campaign manager Chad Williams stating, “The voters of Maricopa County rejected Paul Penzone once before and they’ll do it again.  Right out of the gate, Penzone has chosen to level petty, personal attacks against Sheriff Joe Arpaio. This is not what voters expect out of a campaign for the top law enforcement position in the county.  In short, Paul Penzone lacks the character and experience necessary to be Sheriff. “
