A 54-year-old transient 54 from Florida was killed when he walked into the path of a tractor trailer that was maneuvering in the drive-way of the Flying J truck stop in the 3300blk of E. Andy Devine Ave at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday, June 4.
Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper said the speed of the tractor trailer was believed to be only several miles per hour.
“The angle of the sun and actions of the pedestrian are believed to have been factors in the accident,” Cooper said. “Witnesses stated that it appeared the pedestrian may have thought the truck was going to stop.”
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene from severe upper body trauma. His identity is not being released pending next of kin notification.
Cooper said the driver of the tractor trailer, a 47 year old man from Mississippi, is not suspected to have been impaired and will not be charged in the incident. The investigation is on-going.
