A local judge has declined to order any jail time for an elderly Lake Havasu City man who allegedly used cameras hidden in his home to view his teenage granddaughters. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Steve Conn ordered three years supervised probation for Richard Widman, 73.
Widman was also directed to register as a sex offender and perform 120 hours of community work service. He was convicted through a plea agreement of two reduced counts of attempted surreptitious videotaping.
Police said Widman placed hidden cameras in a guest bedroom in the home in the 2900 block of N. Eldorado Avenue in July, 2013. An investigation began after a technician who was asked to repair the system made a discovery.
“The technician found video of Richard’s 18-year-old granddaughter nude in the bedroom,” said police sergeant Kirk Cesena. “At one point, Richard’s 17-year-old granddaughter was also observed in the nude on the video.”
