The fanfare was palpable at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Thursday as the countdown clock to the N-C-A-A Final Four was unveiled. The digital clock is running down the days, hours and minutes to the 2017 Final Four tournament.
It’s not only the first time the Phoenix area is hosting the event. Governor Doug Ducey adds, ”it’s the first time since 1994 that a western city has been selected to stage the Final Four. All eyes will be on the state of Arizona and the city of Phoenix, and I know we can’t wait.” Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton chimed in, “ I’m a hoops man”, adding, “ I’m most excited that we are hosting, in my opinion, the best sporting event on planet earth, the N-C-A-A Final Four in our community.” The Mayor himself pulled the wraps off the clock after a five second countdown.
Two clocks, including a 55 inch HD screen, are located at terminal four, bookending the luggage carousels. The Final Four is scheduled for April 1st and 3rd, and is expected to draw more than 70-thousand fans per game.
