A plea agreement eliminates need of another trial for a Lake Havasu City man facing four counts of child molestation. A hung jury mistrial was declared June 29 when a Mohave County Superior Court jury was unable to reach unanimous verdicts in the case against 39-year-old Danny Rodriguez.

A plea agreement deal that ends the case was entered on July 25. Public Defender Robin Puchek said all of the sex offense counts were dismissed in exchange for a child abuse conviction.

Puchek said his client is innocent but did not want to risk a possible life sentence if convicted as charged in a trial setting. His no contest plea secured his release after spending 17 months in jail.

Puchek said his wish to get out of jail and save his marriage were decisive factors for Rodriguez in taking the deal rather than a continued quest for acquittal.
