The Lake Havasu City Police Department was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to be used for conducting DUI and traffic enforcement operations. This grant provides the Lake Havasu City Police Department the ability to increase DUI enforcement capabilities by assigning personnel on overtime to concentrate on DUI and traffic enforcement activities.
This grant is being used mainly during holiday weekends, to concentrate on DUI and traffic enforcement in an effort to remove or deter impaired drivers from being on the roadway. This makes driving safer for all motorists.
This year’s grant became effective on October 19, 2015 and will extend through September 30, 2016. During the grant period last year, the assigned enforcement detail officers made 259 motorist contacts, investigated and made 28 arrests for DUI related crimes and issued 196 traffic citations.
As part of the grant safety contract, the police department is required to maintain and submit statistics to the GOHS.
