Federal, state and local law enforcers are teaming up
ahead of Super Bowl XLIX to protect football fans from counterfeit merchandise
as they expect to see a surge of scammers hoping to sell knockoff jerseys,
shoes and other NFL branded merchandise.

ICE Special Agent in Charge Matt Allen notes that, besides the inferior
quality, these products can be dangerous as they may not offer the promised
performance, protection or safety of the real thing.
Allen notes that counterfeiting is not a
victimless crime and, by copying originals, the scammers are stealing from the
companies that make the real thing, the designers who create them and the
laborers who manufacture them, ultimately harming the entire economy and
funding criminal activity.
