A young woman has fallen to her death in a rappelling accident near the Salt River.  Officer Chris Hegstrom with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old ASU student was rappelling off Coons Bluff near the Salt River when she fell 125 feet to her death.   Hegstrom says the girl began her decent off
 

Coons Bluff when something went horribly wrong and she plummeted to the ground.  The woman, who is the daughter of a Phoenix Police Officer, was traveling with an “outdoor” group from ASU when the accident occurred.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner released at statement regarding the death of Lieutenant Robert Conrad’s daughter, Katelyn.  “The entire Phoenix Police Department wishes to express their condolences to the Conrad family.  Katelyn Conrad suddenly lost her life yesterday in a rappelling accident in the east valley.  Her father, Lieutenant Robert Conrad, has been with the Phoenix Police Department for nearly 27 years.  At this time of grieving, the family has asked everyone to respect their privacy.”
