Arizona’s winter heat wave is rousting snakes out of hibernation ahead of the calendar. And it’s keeping the Arizona Herpetological Society very busy these days. Society Curator Daniel Marchand says, with the snakes, including poisonous ones, stirring sooner than usual, demonstrating the
calendar clueless reptiles are naturally awakening to the warmth rather than the season. Marchand says, has recently gotten calls of snakes in backyards and even a garage and house.
Marchand says, the snakes can pop up anywhere in rural or urban areas. So if you’re doing yard work, use instruments to examine and clear bushes rather than your own hands. And if a snake bites you, don’t use a tourniquet but head immediately to the nearest hospital.
