Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Laura Noreen Smith, 21, and Kimberly Catherine Loller, 18, both of Kingman, Wednesday (1/21) afternoon on theft, a felony. As deputies were patrolling the area of Ryan and Castlerock, deputies observed a horse tied to a post in the backyard of a residence in the 3500 block of Ryan Avenue. Deputies knew this area is not zoned for livestock. At about 1:30 p.m., deputies contacted a male subject at the residence and he advised that his sister, Smith, and his girlfriend, Loller, informed him that they brought the horse home last night. The male subject further advised that he observed the horse this morning. The male subject said that Smith and Loller went to the store to get food for the horse. During the investigation, deputies determined the horse was stolen. The victim identified the horse’s special markings and unique shoes. The victim responded and confirmed ownership of the horse. At approximately 2:10 p.m., deputies contacted Smith and Loller when they returned to the residence. Smith and Loller both said that a family friend by the name of Steve gave them the horse late last night. Apparently, Smith and Loller did not know Steve’s last name or his phone number. Deputies contacted a neighbor and she advised seeing Smith and Loller walking the horse in the area early this morning. Deputies further questioned Smith and she advised that they got the horse early this morning. Smith and Loller were taken into custody without incident. They were transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail.
