warrentMohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kent N Thompson, 48, of Chloride, late Sunday (12/14) afternoon for possession of stolen property and altering vehicle serial/ID number, felonies.  Investigations began August 25, 2014, when an employee working for a construction crew reported a yellow 2001 Case backhoe tractor had been stolen from a job site located at Highway 93 at milepost 54.  The backhoe was reported stolen in the NCIC (National Crime Information Center).   During the on-going investigation, deputies received tips that Thompson had stolen the tractor.  Deputies recently learned of the whereabouts of Thompson.  Approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies responded to a property several miles off of Solomon Road.  Deputies did not locate anyone at home.  Deputies located a tractor matching the description of the reported stolen tractor.  Deputies observed the identification number plate had been scraped off the tractor.  Deputies contacted two employees from the business that owns the tractor and had them respond.  In the meantime, deputies contacted Thompson as he pulled up in a vehicle.  Thompson advised that he knows nothing about the backhoe being stolen.  A short time later, the employees arrived and identified the tractor as the company’s stolen tractor.  The employees were able to identify unique features and they started the engine with their spare key.  Thompson was taken into custody without incident.  He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail.
