A massive fire rages through a downtown Mexican restaurant overnight.  Captain Benjamin Santillan with Phoenix Fire Department says flames were seen shooting from the roof of restaurant and baker, “La Tolteca” off Van Buren.  When firefighters arrived, they quickly discovered “there was no visibility, heavy smoke

and heavy fire.”  He says this particular restaurant has a unique roof that proved challenging for firefighters.  The structure is a bowstrung roof which are very dangerous for firefighters because of the long truss span.  These buildings are know to fail under high heat.  The roof had long-spanned trusses measuring about 30 feet that could have catastrophic results if the roof caved in on firefighters.  Fire crews fought the fire from the perimeter and eventually contained it. The cause of the first-alarm fire is under investigation.  No one was injured.
