Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputies arrest a 62 year old New River woman for Animal Cruelty involving 100 animals on her property. After checking out reports Andrea Mikkel was abusing animals, deputies found an array of animals, ranging from zebras and horses, to pigeons, rabbits and quails, plus dogs and cats in bad shape, many with open sores and no food or water.
Deputies in January seized 57 animals, but Sheriff Joe Arpaio says Mikkel went out and acquired more and was discovered with those when she was arrested Thursday. He adds, Mikkel also hid away two zebras in the care of a friend who, as it turned out, is also a supporter of the Sheriff.
Mikkel, a retired police officer, faces 80 counts of Animal Cruelty.
