A candidate for Mohave County office withdrew from the race during a June 17 hearing regarding a challenge of his nominating petitions. Steve Robinson of Golden Valley conceded he lacked the necessary number of valid signatures to qualify for the Assessor’s race.
The challenge was filed by Nancy Esquibel, a Kingman resident who would have faced Robinson in the republican primary election, along with Jeanne Kentch of Lake Havasu City. Esquibel alleged Robinson submitted just three signatures above the mandatory minimum number and that at least 45 of them were invalid.
Robinson conceded petition insufficiency and withdrew without requiring Esquibel to prove her case.
By way of explanation Robinson offered that he got into the race late and that he had to travel to keep his promise to help a friend. He said that left him without the time he needed to ensure nominating petition sufficiency.
Robinson said he will work in support of the Kentch campaign.
