The Lake Havasu City Police Department in partnership with the US Drug Enforcement Administration is holding the 12th Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 22, 2016.  This one-day event makes it convenient for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous prescription drugs.

Between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., residents in the Lake Havasu City area are invited to drop off their expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications at a free drop-off location in front of the Lake Havasu City Police Department at 2360 McCulloch Boulevard North.

Participants may anonymously dispose of medication in its original container or by removing medication from its container and disposing directly into the disposal box.  Please remove any personal identifying information from original containers.  No liquids, needles, sharps, or inhalers please.

Properly disposing of expired, unused, and unwanted pills helps prevent drug abuse and theft.  According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse.

The DEA said studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
