The Mohave Community College District Governing Board met on Friday, August 12 at 12 p.m. in room 301 on the North Mohave Campus, 480 South Central, Colorado City, AZ.
President Dr. Michael Kearns presented a brief overview of the North Mohave Campus construction and renovation project. The college will open bids in August and Dr. Kearns will submit a recommendation to the Board in the September meeting.
Also on the agenda, the board unanimously voted to approve the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Mohave Community College and the Bullhead City Elementary School District #15. This IGA collaboration between MCC and Fox Creek Middle School will establish the pilot program partnership “College Now” for the 2016-2017 academic year.
This program was designed to acknowledge the pedagogic needs of middle school students while delivering the college curriculum of two sections of the MCC course STU103, How to Survive and Thrive in College by the Bullhead City Elementary School District #15 to pre-selected 8th graders. Performance on standardized tests and multiple data points will be the criterion for selection.
Bullhead City Campus Dean, Shawn Bristle stated, “College educators are aware that we need to engage students at an early age along with their parents. We should help them discover the many pathways available to them and communicate the benefits of a college education so they can best prepare for the future of their choosing. This is an opportunity for faculty and staff to explore collaboration opportunities within our community in order to meet the needs of the students.”
