SAR LogoMohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Search & Rescue (SAR) Kingman Unit will be hosting an informational booth Sept. 15 – 18, 2016, at the Mohave County Fair. SAR members will be manning the booth and providing information about the unit and its mission.

MCSO SAR is an all-volunteer organization with more than 100 members covering all of Mohave County and has units in Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City and the Arizona Strip. Their mission is to assist the Sheriff in serving the community by carrying out missions and other duties assigned to them by the Sheriff.

The main purpose of the SAR is to assist the MCSO in the search for lost individuals, and if needed, to rescue them. They also help in evidence searches, body recoveries, security at community events, traffic control and also provide assistance during fires and other disasters.

Since SAR is a totally volunteer organization, the members pay for many expenses out of their own pockets. Each member buys his own personal equipment and outfits his or her own 4X4 vehicle.

There will be a fundraiser for SAR during the county fair and all proceeds garnered from the ticket sales will be used to purchase the unit’s equipment, specialized gear and to further the members’ training. The prizes include a left-handed or right-handed Savage AXIS 308 rifle, a Mossberg Model 505 youth 20 gauge shotgun, and two handmade quilts.

The fundraiser tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and the drawing will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, and the winners need not be present to win.

The all-volunteer MCSO SAR Kingman Unit appreciates the monetary support it receives from corporations, small businesses, and individuals because they receive no government funding other than reimbursement for members’ fuel costs.

Search and rescue has a Federal tax-exempt status under IRS section 501 (c) (3) and all donations are tax deductible.
