The City of Bullhead City will be holding two public meetings to solicit public comment on the future development of Section 12. The public meetings are scheduled for Thursday, January 12 and 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1255 Marina Boulevard.
The portion of Section 12 that will be discussed is commonly known as the public lands east and south of Community Park at 1251 Highway 95.
The City purchased the Section 12 concession lease from a private land holder nearly 10 years ago and has been working to develop the land. In recent workshops, the City Council has agreed to convert a vast majority of these lands out of the concession lease and into a park and public purpose lease. This will allow the public greater access to the Colorado River in the near future.
"These meetings are designed to gain additional public input regarding the development of Section 12," City Manager Toby Cotter stated. "For many years now we've been talking about the development of this land and the amenities that should be built on them. The United States Bureau of Land Management is requiring us to complete a plan of development before the lands can be converted from the concession lease to the park and public purpose lease. These public meetings are designed so that the community can give us a greater idea of what they would like to see built on these lands. We will take the public comments into serious consideration for insertion into the plan of development."
On completion of this plan, City staff will present the proposed final plan of development to the City's Park and Recreation Commission at their meeting on February 15. If the Commission approves the proposed plan, City staff will then take it to the March 7 City Council meeting for adoption.
Anyone wishing to learn more about Section 12 or give their input into the plan of development is encouraged to attend one of the public meetings. If you unable to make either of the meetings you can view the information and map of the area at www.bullheadcity.com/section12. You will be able to download a map and submit your comments by email or by bringing them in to City Hall and submit them to Planning Manager Clint Stevens.
